Hi, this is my first post here, nice to see you. :) Since it's a bit far between posts here, I just thought I'd say a little bit about my own relation to steampunk and you can join in the comments if you want?

My first impressions of steampunk was from "Maika - jenta frå verdsrommet" (Spadla z oblakov) and of course: Pinchcliffe Grand Prix:

Both very enjoyable and with amazing special effects for their era. (Any other fans of these out there?)

Then I discovered Barbarella - who I have written a bit about here (slightly NSFW) - and was forever damaged. ;) I also very much love classic horror & scifi, plus modern steampunk in art. Like the wonderful Girl Genius online comic, the haunting art of Jeremy Geddes or the intricacies of Jacek Yerka.

It is not that I'm "all consumed" by steampunk as I lifestyle, but I love following the steamfashion community and WILL buy myself clockwork earrings one day, just you wait and see. And I am fairly active in fandom generally (on scandafandom for fandom discussion in Scandinavian) and love to get fandom friends. (I have actually promoted this community there, on a list of fandom resources.)

Well, thanks for reading. I'd love to hear how you came into steampunk and see your best steampunk links too. :)
ETA: I do realize that my understanding of steampunk as is pretty broad, and more centred on style than on era. Hope nobody is offended by my post in that regard.

Jag är inte alls inblandad i detta, men eftersom ingen annan har skrivit om det tänkte jag bara posta en blänkare om att det är ett steampunk-lajv i Skillingaryd i Sverige i september, NeoVapori. Bara utifall det fanns någon som inte visste. :)

Translation for non-Scandinavians: I'm not involved in this in any way, but since nobody else has written about it, I thought I'd just post a short notice that there will be a steampunk LARP in Skillingaryd, Sweden, in September: NeoVapori (website in Swedish). Just in case there was someone who didn't know about it. :)

I'll have some of my clothing designs in the Alternative Fashion Show at this years Sjuhäradsfestival. The collection is meant to tell a (steampunk) story of a lady adventurer. Also, the old pumphouse for Ulricehamn is in the festival area. It was built about 100 years ago in National Romantic style and, if there is enough interest, maybe I can get someone from the city architects office to open it so we can see all the fantastic, well-preserved machinery inside the building. This would be a GREAT place for a photoshoot!!!

If anyone is interested in the festival but is short of funds, people who volunteer as functionaries get in free and get free meals and camping in return for a few hours work each day. This is your chance to work with the world's nicest kitchen lady, ME, as well as go to a cultural festival with many different types of activities! :-)

I've recently been to a steampunk meet in England, so I joined LJ (reluctantly) just to ask if there is any chance of anything like that taking place closer to home? I would also relish the possibility of having more (than one) steampunk friend(s). Although if one is to split hairs I am technically mostly diesel myself, albeit an avid fan and supporter of steam, though I tend to see diesel as more of a subdivision and I say steam when people ask... not that it helps them.

Let's see some action here!!! :-) What type of  Steamy goodness are you working on? I'm working on an outfit from the boots up - I got really cool Granny Boots at the after Christmas sales and have made the skirt part of  my dress.  I'm going for a "after the yacht capsized, our gallant party washed up on the beach of a deserted island populated by cannibals and dinosaurs so I just had to make do" type of outfit. I sewed my skirt to a sleeveless t-shirt that won't show when I've put on a shirt and some type of vest or bodice.
